Belden Launches Line of ‘Traceable’ Category Patch Cables

January 23, 2013 by Ted Leave a Comment

Belden logoBelden, Inc. announced today it was launching a line of unique traceable Bonded-Pair patch cables to help users and installers to quickly and easily identify network connections. The cables could be a real time-saver for sophisticated system installations involving multiple network connections by providing installers a simple and fool-proof method of verifying paired connections.

See more on this interesting product introduction…

This simple innovation from Belden works by housing a small LED light in each end of the cable. The installer simply presses a button on the low-profile plug, and the LEDs flash on each end of the patch cord for 20 seconds, allowing for a quick visual verification that the cable is correctly located in the correct position.

Belden is offering this traceable feature in 10GX (Category 6A) for 10 gigabit applications and CAT6+ for gigabit applications.

“Finding patch cord connections within densely populated patching areas is a challenge that is overcome by deploying Belden’s traceable Bonded-Pair patch cords,” said Product Line Manager Benoit Chevarie in a prepared statement. “Belden’s cords feature an integrated, and exceptionally bright, LED light that enables easy identification of where the cored is connected.”

Other features of Belden’s traceable patch cords:

  • The company says the LEDs are “exceptionally bright” and the battery life expectancy of the system is said to be seven years or 1,000 applications. The battery is replaceable.
  • Each cord has a unique serial number and bar code at each end for use in Mobile DCIM systems.
  • These cables feature Belden’s Bonded-Pair technology which is said to ensure long-term performance even when subjected to multiple insertions and moves.
  • The blinking of the LEDs can be stopped by a quick second push of the button.
