Saying they’re the first to do so, Lennar is embracing the newly announced Wi-Fi Certified program from the Wi-Fi Alliance – a network of companies that supports and promotes Wi-Fi adoption globally. Lennar’s Wi-Fi Certified home designs use Ruckus Wireless and are said to provide coverage to every room in the house with “no dead spots.”
Along with this Wi-Fi backbone, the system will include Amazon’s Alexa voice control technology, as well as other partners to allow homeowners an experience they don’t normally have when they buy a new home – a fully automated smart home from the moment they walk in the door. The Alexa interface will allow homeowners full voice control of lights, front door lock, and thermostat.
A Standardized Approach to Automation
“Amazon and Lennar share a common belief in putting experience and the customer first. Engineering a home for the connected world is a natural for Lennar, but bringing it to life with Amazon Alexa is a game changer,” said David Kaiserman, president of Lennar Ventures. “now, customers can see first hand how dimple, powerful and affordable a smart home can be by visiting Lennar communities around the country.”
Wi-Fi Certified home design uses a standardized approach to new residential Wi-Fi network design to help ensure whole-home connectivity, with no dead spots, that works seamlessly with thousands of wireless devices and services. Lennar says they are the first home builder to support the standard in their new home construction.
Smart…and Affordable
“We’re very excited to work with Lennar because we think customers will love the experience of a move-in-ready smart home with Alexa,” said Daniel Rausch, VP Smart Home at Amazon. “With Lennar’s new homes, customers can start asking Alexa to turn on and off lights, adjust thermostats, and more, from the start, making the smart home experience simpler than ever.”
Lennar’s new Wi-Fi Certified home designs will use Ruckus Unleashed Wi-Fi access points and ICX switching. The builder say Ruckus is “high-performance – yet flexible and reliable – Smart Wi-Fi technology.”
Good Fit for Residential Customer
The Ruckus Unleashed product is a controller-less design that Lennar says makes it more affordable wireless LAN solution. Not only that, but it can “be deployed in minutes, making it ideal for a national homebuilder like Lennar.” Also, this affordable solution at an entry-level price is a good fit for a residential customer.
Lennar will begin offering Wi-Fi Certified home designs next month and will expand it nationwide by the end of 2017.
