Sharp Corp. this week began warning the media and, through them, investors that it is likely to miss its forecasts for revenues and profits for the fiscal year set to end March 31, 2015…and miss big. GoPro Stock Hit Hard As Word of New Apple Patent Leaks
GoPro, Inc., the specialty manufacturer of sports-oriented cameras and camcorders, saw its stock plummet 12% in just one day on Tuesday when word leaked out of a new patent awarded to Apple, Inc. that appears to be for a remote control camera system. Although there was no official announcement from Apple about the product, word about the patent and its possible impact on GoPro spread around Wall Street like wildfire.

DOW Electronics Expands Into TX & OK via Acquisition of Eagle Distributors
Tampa, FL-based DOW Electronics, Inc. announced this week that it has reached “an agreement in principle” to acquire Eagle Distributors, LLC of Kenner, Louisiana. The deal, which represents a rather dramatic expansion of DOW’s geographic reach, is expected to close by mid- to late-February.

Risky Business: Monster Sues Beats Alleging Fraudulent Practices
As the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicked off yesterday in Las Vegas, attorneys for Monster, LLC and owner Noel Lee were busy filing a lawsuit in a California Superior court against Beats Electronics, LLC, Andre Young (Beats founder better known as Dr. Dre), Paul D. Wachter (a Beats director), Jimmy Iovine (Beats founder), and HTC (a Taiwanese company that allegedly at one time owned a majority interest in Beats). Multiple published reports carried the rather salacious claims by Monster and “Head Monster” Noel Lee about the allegedly nefarious business practices of Beats, its founders, certain directors, and some of its partners.

Strange Bedfellows? Dish Adds Netflix to Its Hopper Box
Dish Network Corp. announced today that it is the first major pay-TV provider in the U.S. to integrate the Netflix app into its set-top box. With this system, available on their second generation Hopper, users can access their favorite Netflix movies and shows, such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. And this Netflix content resides side-by-side with “linear” TV channels.

On Eve of Trial, Savant & Crestron Settle Lawsuit
BREAKING NEWS
We’ve learned today that the long running legal battle between automation giants Savant Systems and Crestron Electronics has been settled on the eve of the case going to trial. The suit was originally filed in September 2010 by Savant Systems, LLC, which alleged that Crestron Electronics, Inc. had – amongst other things – engaged in a variety of anti-competitive and unfair trade practices. Crestron denied Savant’s allegations and launched their own countersuit alleging that Savant had – amongst other things – engaged in tortious interference with contractual relations; and, unfair & deceptive acts in the conduct of trade.
