Says It’s the First Global TV Maker to Support HomeKit

LG adds Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to Thinq AI TVs

LG Electronics announced today that starting tomorrow Apple AirPlay and HomeKit will be available on its 2019 Thinq AI TV line. The company says this makes them the first global television manufacturer to support HomeKit.

The company will make Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit available on their latest line of Thinq AI TVs via a firmware update that will be launched tomorrow – Thursday, July 25, 2019. And with the addition of these Apple technologies, owners of Thinq AI TVs will enjoy a whole new range of features added to their entertainment experience.

The company says that with this update, Thinq AI TV users will be able to “effortlessly stream content – including Dolby Vision titles – from iPhone, iPad and Mac straight to their TV sets.” Not only that, but they’ll also be able to stream their favorite movies and television shows from the Apple TV app and other video apps – as well as view photos – directly on these select models.

LG adds Apple AirPlay 2 & HomeKit to TVs

“LG remains at the forefront of TV technological innovation because of our never-ending quest to deliver the best home viewing experience. With Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support, we are demonstrating our commitment to offering consumer benefits that go beyond just best-in-class picture quality.”

Brian Kwon, president LG Mobile Communications and Home Entertainment companies

Apple’s HomeKit gives users almost total control of their smart home via the Home app or though voice commands to Siri on their Apple devices. Now, they’ll be able to control their Thinq AI TVs as well, as they can be easily added to the Apple Home app. Once added, users can operate all basic TV functions such as power, volume and source selection. Thinq AI TVs can also be added to scenes and automations along with other HomeKit accessories.

LG says that the firmware updates adding Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to LG OLED and NanoCell TVs will begin rolling out this week in 140 countries, with the updates continuing over the weeks that follow.
