Savant Shades and Power Solutions Now Available to Non-Savant Control Integrators
Savant Systems, Inc. announced today that it has expanded its popular line of Inception motorized shades designed by J. Geiger, and in so doing says it created more opportunities for custom integration specialists everywhere – including for integrators using other brands of system control solutions. Inception features a unique, elegant, minimalist roller shade design that was very much popularized by J. Geiger – which is now owned by, and exclusively available from, Savant.

The genius of the Inception shades is that they incorporate an exposed roller shade that is a more flexible installation solution that works just about everywhere. That includes in installations where a client may not want…or doesn’t have the space…or is otherwise unwilling to accommodate a special valance or other facia as found in more traditional motorized shade installations. Installations of Inception roller shades are clean, and elegant, and feature a minimal visual impact of the shade mechanism.
The company notes that J. Geiger introduced its R-Series shades embodying this exposed-roller concept over a decade ago, and it “…changed the way homeowners and designers view shades as part of any décor.” The company adds that now Inception goes even further, offering minimalist solutions even when the location of related wiring is imprecise.

Inception Offers Options…Lots and Lots of Options
Both R-Series and Inception models feature rugged aluminum hardware finished in their choice of black, silver, or white. Homeowners and their designers also have more than 600 fabrics (!) to choose from to fit perfectly into any interior design. Each of these fabrics is available in translucent, sheer, or blackout style to meet the needs of any potential installation situation.
Finally, homeowners can choose options from wired or wireless motorized, and even manual shade options.
Savant Launches Online Design Tool to Make Ordering Easy
Savant has launched an online platform that is so intuitive that it simplifies the design and ordering process for integrators. Through this tool, integrators can design and quote both lighting control and shading solutions simultaneously for the same project – and even generate installation documentation.
All the integrator has to do is follow simple prompts that move through the process step-by-step, allowing rooms to be named, shade measurements to be input, and giving access to the full library of available fabrics – keeping all elements of the project together in each order. Dealers can put the entire project in the shopping cart at once, or break it down by installation phase. This flexibility makes it easy to use the project summary as both a quoting and ordering tool.
The Big News: Non-Savant Control Integrators Can Apply to Offer Inception & Savant Power
In the prepared release announcing the expansion of Inception, the company noted the following…
This is the first time I’ve heard of a major control line unbundling major segments of their offerings – in this case, shading and smart power solutions – to integrators committed to other control brands. In an industry replete with “walled gardens,” it’s refreshing to see a wall come tumbling down.
Your Motor Options
The company offers four different motor options for its line of shades. They are as follows…
- Wired Motors – Wired motors are, quite logically, wired for power and control. The company says they offer, “abundant smart home integration options, including voice-controlled hubs and home automation ecosystems.”
- Wired RF Motors – These RF motors are wired for power and controlled wirelessly by an RF (radio frequency) signal. Installations using RF motors can be integrated into a whole home system or simply connected to a stand-alone keypad, remote control, or voice-controlled hub.
- Rechargeable RF Motors – Unlike their brother above, these motors are completely wireless and battery-powered. With a usable battery life of up to a full year, thanks to a magnetic port the batteries are easily recharged with no disassembly required. Like wired RF motors, these rechargeable RF motors can be integrated into an installation or operated on a stand-alone basis.
- Manual Shades – Last but not least, Savant also offers a manual shade mechanism option. You might call this the un-motor option. This is perfect for your budget-conscious clients, or where space is so tight that motors won’t fit – or in lesser-used spaces where automation just isn’t necessary.
