It took the involvement of one of the oldest and most powerful families in the United States, but when Laurance Rockefeller reached out to LG Group Chairman Bon-Moo Koo, talks ensued that resulted in the global electronics powerhouse agreeing to alter construction plans for their new headquarters building in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, resolving a long-running dispute. The issue, not well-known in other parts of the country, has been the center of a firestorm here in the New York metropolitan market, with its almost pulp fiction-like storyline of greedy developers cutting backroom deals to despoil a pristine environment in a raw display of corporate hubris. Powerful NY Attorney General Enters LG – Palisades Dispute

The New York Times reported this morning that New York’s powerful attorney general, Eric T. Schneiderman, has entered the dispute between LG Electronics and various environmentalist groups seeking to force LG to modify construction plans for its new headquarters facility. Schneiderman, siding with the environmentalist groups, has filed an amicus brief with the appellate court asking it to reverse a lower court decision that allowed the construction to proceed.

Environmental Group Raises Stakes to Stop LG’s New US Headquarters

A group of concerned citizens and several environmental groups have banded together to form an organization known as the Protect the Palisades group in an effort to stop LG Electronics USA from building a new headquarters tower in an area of New Jersey called the Palisades. The Palisades is a large wooded area that spans parts of Northern New Jersey and Southern New York, and it borders on the picturesque Hudson River. It is famed for its wild and natural beauty – and it is a U.S. National Natural Landmark.
