Some of you reading this announcement were already aware that a deal of some type was in the works, because we polled several of our loyal readers to see what they thought of the idea without identifying specifically who we were speaking with. Based on those conversations – which were not universally positive to the idea – we’ve drawn up the following FAQs or Frequently Asked Questions.
FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions About This Deal
1. Who is NewBay Media?
NewBay Media is a large media group with a special focus on AV/Pro Audio, Broadcast/Video, CE/Gaming, Education, and Music. In our industry, most of you will be familiar with NewBay Media properties such as Residential Systems, Sound & Video Contractor, Systems Contractor News, AV Technology, and TWICE.
NewBay Media also produces the CEDIA Daily, the ISE Daily, the InfoComm Daily, and the InfoComm Show Guide. They are an incredibly well-respected and professional publishing group.
2. Did NewBay Media buy Stratecon…or Strata-gee?
NewBay Media did NOT purchase Stratecon or Strata-gee. We have an agreement to provide a certain amount of content to be published on NewBay properties. There is nothing more than that to this arrangement.
3. Will this agreement change Strata-gee? Will you be pressured to alter your reporting style to be more politically correct?
There is unequivocally no impact from the NewBay agreement on our reporting either on Strata-gee.com or at StrateconGroup.com. NewBay sought us out because of our fresh perspective and unique style. While it is true that the content we are providing NewBay Media to be published on their properties will be edited, we have been told they will be only lightly editing the material to maintain its distinctiveness.
But just to be clear – there will be absolutely NO change in our reporting for stories to be published on our websites.
4. When does this all start?
It all starts very, very soon. The first product of this agreement, an article by Ted Green, will appear in the April issue of Residential Systems Magazine (both in print and online).
5. Why should I care about this announcement?
Because content written by Stratecon founder and Strata-gee editor Ted Green will appear elsewhere in the industry under his name, we wanted to be certain that our loyal subscribers and readers understood the “how” and “why” of this event. And we want our readers to be clear that whatever transpires in our association with NewBay Media – nothing changes at Strata-gee.com or on StrateconGroup.com.
6. What does this deal with NewBay Media mean for The Stratecon Group and Strata-gee.com?
Our agreement with NewBay does several things for us – all positive, in our view. First, it exposes more folks in the technology industry to our unique approach to stories and writing style. Some NewBay readers may seek us out at our properties, offering us further opportunities to grow.
Second, it offers the opportunity for Stratecon writers to expand their influence in the industry. Many of our stories offer our position or “take” on key industry issues. We now have a bigger megaphone, larger audience, and potentially more influence.
Third, this agreement offers another stream of revenue for us and helps to offset the costs of maintaining our various news gathering and web publishing activities.
And last, we believe that NewBay Media’s decision to approach us on a content supply program is a sort of validation for our unique approach to reporting the news – or as we prefer to call it – telling important stories. NewBay is one of the largest and most respected news gathering organizations – and we think that their decision to choose us as a source of stories for them to publish is, well, a big compliment.
